Chad Langley Named 17th Manager in A’s History

Chad Langley, the Sheboygan A’s primary first baseman for the past three years, will be seeing the games from the other side of the diamond this year.
He’ll be spending the home half of the innings in the third base coaching box as the 17th manager in the A’s 53-year history. He replaces Tyler Martin, who posted an 81-42 record (.659) in his two seasons at the post. Last year Martin’s club went 44-17 and won the Langsdorf League championship, their first title since Craig Kloes’ 2000 team won the Wisconsin State League, and Martin was named State League Manager of the Year after finishing second in that league.
Martin is leaving reluctantly but work responsibilities prohibited him from returning.
Langley brings familiarity and exuberance to the post.
In his three years he has appeared in 157 games and stepped into the batter’s box 598 times. He is a .279 career hitter with 23 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 89 runs batted in. He has committed only 19 errors in 1,067 chances.
A scholar-athlete, Langley was an all-county and all-conference player at Racine Horlick High School and a 2-year captain and all-conference player at Marian University.
Langley, who worked with the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Academy, is currently an assistant coach at Marian College.
To say that he is looking forward to his new post is to understate massively. “One thing I can guarantee is that there has never been another Sheboygan manager as excited as I am to coach this team,” he said.
“I knew after my first summer of playing with Sheboygan that I wanted to manage the team when I was done playing. I knew there wasn’t a better summer managing job in the state than this one and that is what I wanted to do.”
“Starting in about October I began emailing Denny (A’s General Manager Denny Moyer) every few weeks expressing my interest. I had other options, but I wanted to wait too wait it out and have a chance at managing Sheboygan.”
“Needless to say I was very excited when Denny told me I would be managing the team,” he said.
“I have every confidence that Chad will do well,” Moyer said.
“He’s bright, he knows the game and he and I are on the same page in terms of what we expect of our players. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
