Veterans Lead A’s to Win

Posted: June 5, 2014

A’s veterans Ben Stanczyk and Taylor Schwarz turned back the young and scrappy Northern Illinois Legends by a 3-1 score at Wildwood Baseball Park Wednesday night.

Stanczyk, who started with the A’s as a UW-Milwaukee undergrad in 2002 and who later emerged as a UW-Milwaukee and Horizon League star and 4-year Milwaukee Brewers Minor leaguer, threw five innings of no-hit baseball, and Taylor Schwarz, who is in his seventh season for the A’s pitched the final four to shut down Legends and lead the win.

Stanczyk had a no-hitter going over the befuddled Legends through his allotted five innings.

The A’s scored single runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings with Trevor Theissen, Harry Steldt and Cole Heili driving in the runs. Theissen finished with two hits.

The A’s, now 4-2, are playing in Kenosha tonight and in Eau Claire over the weekend.
