Storm no match for hot A’s

Posted: June 8, 2013

The Green Bay Storm ended the Sheboygan A’s Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League season last year in the playoffs.

But the Storm became the latest victim in the A’s hot start this season on Friday, when Sheboygan took advantage of a strong start to claim a 10-6 win at home.

The victory pushes the A’s to a 5-1 overall record. They’re 2-0 against NEW teams.

Green Bay threatened to take control of the game early, though, scoring on a two-run homer in the top of the first inning.

But A’s answered right back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first before scoring three more in the second to take a four-run lead and all the momentum they needed to hold the Storm under control the rest of the evening.

Dan Barwick batted three hits, and Cole Heili, Trevor Theissen and Luke Maldonado all hit two apiece.

The Storm threatened to score a slew of runs in the eighth inning. Trailing 10-4, Green Bay loaded the bases and looked poised to put a few runners across home plate.

But a double play sparked by smart defense by Maldonado helped take the gas out of the Storm’s tank.

Derek Lomans took the win after pitching seven innings on the A’s mound. He scattered six hits, including the two-run homer in the first inning. But he kept Green Bay’s lineup under wraps after that, giving up only one more run after that.

Sheboygan’s only loss this season came on Sunday against the Northern Illinois Legends.

Sheboygan is scheduled to play a doubleheader on the road today against the Appleton Legends. The A’s next home game is slated for Tuesday night, when the club hosts the Oshkosh Giants.
