Derek Loomans, who went 5-1 with a 3.77 earned run average last year, and Greg Rhude, who rejoins the A’s after spending the 2012 season with the Eau Claire Cavaliers, head the list of most recent players to commit to the Sheboygan semi-pro club for the 2013 season.
Loomans joined the club last least year and quickly emerged as one of the team’s most consistent pitchers running up five straight wins before suffering his only loss. He is currently in the starting rotation at Lakeland College. He went 4-3 with a 2.73 ERA last year and so far is 2-1 in this rain-plagued season.
Loomans hails from Brandon, WI, and was a standout pitcher for Waupun High School.
Rhude, an infielder from Plymouth, is currently playing for Madison College, where he has appeared in 17 of the Wolfpack’s first 18 games and is currently hitting .273. He hit .286 for Eau Claire in the Wisconsin State League last year after hitting .243 for the A’s in 43 games in 2011.
He was a two-time all-conference player at Plymouth High School and played his first year of college ball at Concordia before transferring to Madison where he red-shirted last year.
Others who have committed to the club are outfielder Jeremy McCarty, pitcher Max Kramsky and catcher/outfielders Bobby Musil and Eric Cullen.
McCarty is a redshirt freshman at UW Milwaukee. He helped Waupun High School to a 24-6 record and Little 10 Conference title last year. He hit .395 as a junior and in his senior year he hit .353 with three home runs and 28 runs batted in. He also played football and hockey in high school.
Kramsky, who came up with the club at the end of his high school season in 2012 played a full season with the club in 2011, going 1-1 with a 3.22 earned run average. He was sidelined with an injury last summer.
Kramsky also plays at Lakeland College.
Musil joined the A’s after finishing a strong career at Sheboygan Falls High School where he was a two-time all-conference catcher for the Falcons and a standout in both football and basketball. He hit .375 in five games with the A’s last year as an outfielder.
Cullen, who resides in Random Lake, played high school ball in Toms River, NJ. This will be his first try with the A’s.
