Wisconsin Singers Return to Sheboygan

Posted: October 18, 2012

The Wisconsin Singers bring their 45th anniversary show, Can’t Stop Us Now!, to the South High School Stage on Saturday evening, Nov. 17.

The 2012 show marks the 16th straight year the local Wisconsin Singers Committee has brought the troupe to Sheboygan.

The show features powerful vocals, professional choreography, sensational instrumentals and clever humor from UW-Madison’s most talented students. In addition, the Northern Lights, South High Singers and Sheboygan Falls High School Jazz/Show Choir will open the show, each doing two numbers.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. following an afternoon of clinics where the Singers and their staff members rehearse and teach with the North, South and Sheboygan Falls students.

The show features a variety of American popular music spanning the last 40 years.

From the playfulness of youth in “Nicest Kids in Town” to familiar chart toppers like “Summer Nights” and “Cowboy Casanova”, Can’t Stop Us Now! promises to entertain every generation.

If you like top 40, you’ll enjoy hits by heavyweights like the Jackson 5, Frank Sinatra, Lady Gaga and Gloria Estefan. If you prefer rock ‘n’ roll or jazz, the renowned Wisconsin Singers band will treat you to hits by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and even Boots Randolph. You’ll laugh out loud at Tom Jones in “It’s Not Unusual” and young and old alike will enjoy guest appearances by Kermit, Miss Piggy and Oscar the Grouch from the Muppets singing “Life’s a Happy Song.”

And of course Badger fans won’t want to miss the Singers rendition of the Fifth Quarter where the audience will join them in singing Varsity, dancing to “Tequila”, and “jump around” to “Teach me how to Bucky.”

Adult tickets are $20 and student tickets (17-under) are $5. Proceeds from the show go to music scholarships.

Advance tickets are available at Trilling True Value Hardware; Sheboygan’s BMO Harris Banks; Qmart stores on S. 8th St. and N. 10th & Geele in Sheboygan, and Hwy 32 in Sheboygan Falls; Tietz’s Piggly Wiggly (Northgate); Blattner’s Piggly Wiggly (Sheboygan Falls), Festival Foods and at the participating high schools.

Tickets can be purchased by mail by writing to Wisconsin Singers, PO Box 32, Sheboygan, WI 53032 and making checks payable to Wisconsin Singers-Sheboygan. Mail-in ticket orders must be received by Nov. 10.

Theater doors will open at 6:45 p.m. to admit advance ticket purchasers. After that tickets will be available at the box office.

The show is sponsored by the Sheboygan Athletic Club.
