Schwarz’s pitching effort not enough in title game

Posted: August 11, 2012

Four-hit, nine-strikeout pitching by Randy Johnson ruined a sterling effort by Taylor Schwarz and gave the Kenosha Kings a 3-0 victory over the Sheboygan A’s in the Langsdorf League championship game in Kenosha Friday night.

The A’s had opportunities to pierce the runs column but couldn’t get it done.

Harry Steldt led off the second with a double. Then came a strikeout, ground out and strikeout.

With one out, Cole Heili doubled in the third. Strikeout, strikeout.

Then Tim Patzman led off the fourth with a double. Strikeout, ground out, ground out.

The A’s had only two other base-runners after that. Johnson was that tough.

Kenosha scored two in the third, when after two outs, Tyler Eickmeyer and JT Schneider singled. Billy Johnson followed with a double to score both.

Errors got Schwarz in trouble, but he bore down and got out of one inning after another. Kenosha’s insurance run came when Joe Ferro tripled and scored on Eickmeyer’s sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Schwarz held Kenosha to seven hits. He struck out four. Both pitchers went the distance and neither pitcher allowed a walk.

Kenosha finished with a gaudy 39-11 record under skipper Tim Pulizzano. The A’s finished 33-27 under Kyle Trewyn.
