A’s Looking Forward to Coming Home
Posted: June 25, 2012
The Sheboygan A’s are looking forward to this week’s stretch of home games and who can blame them?
The club has played 14 of its last 18 games on the road in this past three weeks’ stretch and they won only four of those 14. And to make matters worse one of the four home games was rained out.
But despite the schedule the club is still one-up at 12-11 for the season after losing three of four in Chicago this weekend.
The A’s split Saturday night’s games at Addison and lost Sunday’s doubleheader at Lombard.
The club has earned an off-day Monday, and then plays six of its next seven games at home. It starts this week with Appleton here Tuesday night, Kenosha’s Kings here Wednesday night, Oshkosh here Thursday night and Racine here on Friday night.
Tuesday is Bonder’s Night and Lions Night and the club will also entertain Cub Pack 3801 which will present the colors. Wednesday is Bank First National Night and Thursday is Meals on Wheels Night when the Diamonds 8th Graders will Partner with the A’s, Friday is Fish Fryday night when A’s sponsors will be giving away Fish Fry purchase certificates. The Oostburg Cub Scouts and the Lakeshore 4th Graders will supply some spirit.
Too Cool will play Tuesday through Thursday night and First 50 prizes will be given away Wednesday by Larry’s Distributing and Thursday by the Railroad Museum.
Weekend Round-Up
Addison Braves 5, A’s 4. Addison took a 1-0 lead in the first, but the A;s tacked on three in the second with Matt Bromley, Grant Evans and Dan Salzbrenner getting RBIs. Addison fought back for a 4-3 lead, but the A’s tied it at four on Justin Hunt’s sacrifice fly. Addison got one in the sixth for 5-4 and the A’s failed to score Chad Langley, who led off the seventh with a double, and fell 5-4. The A’s committed four errors in the game in non-support of starter and loser Cody Griebling.
A’s 8, Braves 3. This was a pitcher’s duel for the first five innings with Dillion Engle of the A’s and Kyle Nelson of the Braves duking it out. Addison took an early 2-0 lead, but the A’s tied it in the sixth with Will Martin and Evans getting RBI hits. Then in the seventh, Nelson was removed and Addison’s bull pen fell apart giving up a hit (hunt’s 2-run single), a hit batsman and a half-dozen walks to give the A’s an easy win. Engle got the win with 13 strikeouts in his seven innings of work.
Lombard Orioles 6, A’s 4. Five first inning hits, most of them bleeders with seeing eyes, got Lombard four runs in the first inning. Langley’s 2-run homer made it 4-2. Lombard got another run in the third, but Tim Patzman hit another 2-run homer to pull the A’s to 5-4 Lombard added still another run in the sixth, and the A’s went down in order in the seventh.
Orioles 10, A’s 0. Lombard pummeled the A’s in this game, getting 10 runs on 11 hits in only four innings. The A’s managed only two hits in their five innings as the League Mercy Rule put the A’s out of their misery and pointed them to Sheboygan.
The A’s, who have yet to play a State League game at Wildwood Park, fell to 1-7 in WSL play.
