A’s Alumni Report: Feb. 19

Each week leading up to the season, SheboyganBaseball.org will look at how some Sheboygan A’s alumni, and A’s signed on for the current season are doing in their collegiate and professional seasons.

University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee
The UWM Panthers opened up their 2012 season with a three game series at #22 ranked East Carolina. The Panthers dropped all three games, but two of the games the Panthers had good chances of winning.

Derek Peake (2011) started both of the last two games of the weekend in center fielder. Peake drove in the Panthers first run of the season with an RBI double in game two of the series. Peake suffered a broken finger in a bunt attempt in game three of the series and will miss some time with the injury.

Ryan Solberg (2011) started in right field in the season opener, going 0-4 at the plate. Solberg was fighting illness over the weekend, and did not appear in the final two games.

Eric King (2010) pitched 1 inning of relief, allowing zero runs.

Alex Erdmann (2010) threw a scoreless frame in his UWM pitching debut.

Greg Blohowiak (2009, 2010) made relief appearances in two of the three games. In 2 innings pitched, Blohowiak surrendered six hits and five earned runs, while striking out one and walking one.

University of Illinois-Chicago
The Univesity of Illinois – Chicago Flames opened up their season facing #5 Texas A&M.

Collin Weyer (2011) pitched one inning of relief as the UIC Flames fell in their season opener to #5 Texas A&M. Weyer allowed one hit and one earned run while striking out one in his season debut.

Point Loma Nazarene University
Jack Archie (2010, 2011) tossed seven stellar innings to lead Point Loma Nazarene past NAIA No. 23-ranked Madonna 2-1 in a pitcher’s duel February 10th at Carroll B. Land Stadium. Archie has appeared in four games for the Sea Lions, starting three. He is 1-0 with a 3.80 ERA in 21.1 innings, with 21 strikeouts.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
