A’s Scramble, The Snipe, a Huge Success

Posted: August 23, 2011

The 11th annual A’s Scramble, AKA the second annual “The Snipe,” was a huge succes.

With Scott Stangel and Sharon Van Veghel doing the promoting, 31 foursomes turned out for the Sheboygan A’s golf outing fund-raiser, that has been renamed “The Snipe” to perpetuate the memory of Snipe Van Veghel, everybody’s friend, and longtime Sheboygan Athletic Club volunteer.

The Gardner Group (Tom, Troy and Mitch Gardner and Tim Aldag) and the Moving Vans (John, Mike and Steve Van Veghel and Bob Scheuffner) tied for first with The Gardner Group awarded first place on a best-from-the-back tie-breaker. Both groups shot 61.

Larry’s Distributing won the Women’s Division with Jenn Gutschow, Jen Fritsch, Jen Reinl and Jane Letschner the players and Team Kleine with Art, Barb, Eric and Kelly Kleine competing, won the Mixed Division.

Hole prizes went to the following:

Pigeon Run
Dane Schaefer, closest to the pin from tee on #1
Tom Robinson, longest drive men on #2
Craig Carpenter, closest to the pin on #7
Jerry Kloster, closest to the pin third shot on #8
Chris Theune, closest to the pin from tee on #9

Berms
B. Franzen, shortest drive men on #1
Steve Kohls, closest to the pin from tee on #3
Kelly Kleine, longest drive on #6
Jen Reinl, shortest drive, women on #8

The Sheboygan Athletic Club extends a sincere thank you to Stangel and Van Veghel who worked so hard on the tournament; to Fritz Rammer, who raised $1,030 on the 50-50 raffle; to the friends of Snipe and the fans of the A’s who participated, to A’s players Jack Archie, Grant Berkovitz and Mitch Gardner, who showed their appreciation for the club’s efforts all season long by participating; to all the sponsors who donated prizes and auction items; and to the staff of Town and Country who were so very helpful.

The A’s encourage all to mark their calendars now for the 12th annual A’s Scramble and 3rd annual “The Snipe,” which is tentatively set to be held on the second Saturday of August, 2012.
