A’s, Manitowoc Will Play for Title

Posted: August 7, 2011

The Sheboygan A’s will play the Manitowoc Bandits for the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League championship.

Tim Patzman’s long RBI double up the right-centerfield gap scored Greg Rhude with the only run of the game as the A’s beat the Menasha MACs 1-0 in Menasha Sunday night. Rhude reached on an error to open the seventh inning and set up Patzman’s heroics.

While Patzman drove in the game’s only run, he must share the spotlight with pitcher Jack Archie. Archie came through with one of the finest mound outings of the season. He finished for a complete game after throwing 3 1/3 innings before the rain stopped the game Saturday night. He finished with a two hitter and allowed only one MAC to reach second base. He struck out five, walked one and hit one batsman.

The A’s managed only four hits off MenashA’s Jason Wierschke.

The A’s-Bandits series begins Tuesday night in Manitowoc and resumes Wednesday night in Sheboygan. The third game, if necessary, will be played in Manitowoc Thursday night. All games get under way at 7:30 p.m.

The A’s enter the championship series with a 31-15 record and a 13-game winning streak.
