Stanczyk Rejoins Sheboygan A’s

Ben Stanszyk, who spent five seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers Minor League system, heads a list of four more players who have agreed to join the Sheboygan A’s this summer.

Others are Kyle Edlhuber, an infielder-outfielder, who is back for his second season, and first year players Ryan Solberg, a first baseman from UW-Milwaukee. and Carsten Haas, a pitcher.

Stanczyk was with the A’s in 2002 when he was named the Wisconsin State League Rookie of the Year. He was 7-1 with two saves and a 1.53 earned run average. When he wasn’t pitching, he was playing third base. He hit .351 in 53 games that season.

He was a standout at UWM and in 2004 was the first player in the history of the Horizon League to be named Player and Pitcher of the Year. He hit .374 that season, with 73 hits including 10 doubles, a triple and 10 home runs, in 49 games. On the mound that year he was 7-3 with a 3.43 earned run average.

In his 3-year career at UWM he went 13-3 with a 3.07 ERA and had 140 strikeouts in 140 innings pitched. He finished with a .320 career batting average in 117 games. His 95 strikeouts in 2004 and his 13 strikeouts against Detroit are school records.

Stanczyk signed with the Brewers in the summer of 2004 and got as high as AA Huntsville. He was 21-14 in the minors with a 3.91 ERA and 240 strikeouts in 257 innings.

Stanczyk is employed with the Kohler Co. and resides in Grafton with his wife Heidi.

Edlhuber returns after hitting .287 in 41 games for the A’s last season. He played at Wisconsin Lutheran where he was a .366 career hitter. He hit .381 and .421 in his junior and senior seasons at Lutheran.

Solberg is in his first season at UWM after a brilliant high school career at Waukesha West. He was named the State High School player of the after posting a career .451 batting average with 14 home runs and 132 runs batted in. He also won Waukesha Freeman, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Wisconsin State Old Timers Baseball Association and Associated Press honors. As of this writing the freshman was hitting .269 in 18 games at UWM.

Haas had a solid high school career as a pitcher at Glendale Nicolet but hasn’t played in college.

A’s Notes
The A’s report that group nights at the ball park are gaining in popularity as 22 groups have already planned outings.

Season tickets will are expected to be delivered by the printer within the next two weeks and will be mailed to fans in plenty of time for the May 27 home opener against the Plymouth Flames. Fans can order season tickets by contacting the club at the number below.

While work is progressing well on the dugouts, weather has once again put a halt to the work on the grounds at Wildwood Baseball Park.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League.
