Matt Schilter Named Northeastern’s MVP

Posted: October 26, 2010

The little second baseman who makes big things happen for the Sheboygan A’s was named the Most Valuable Player of the Northeastern Wisconsin League.

Matt Schilter, who hit .388 in the league with only four strikeouts in 105 plate appearances and a runaway league-leading 24 stolen bases, beat out Drew Eichstaedt of Appleton and Doug Coe of league champion Green Bay for the loop’s top honor.

“Every time he gets a hit it might as well be a triple,” one team representative said. “Seems like he is always on third base and always scoring a run.” Schilter also led the league in runs scored.

Eichstaedt led in hitting with a .452 average and was elected Rookie of the Year.

Sharing pitcher of the y ear honors were Kevin Kangas of Appleton and Bryan Stoppenbach of Green Bay. Kangas was 5-0 with a 1.73 earned run average and Stoppenbach was 5-1 with a 1.78 ERA.

Schilter was named to the all-league infield. A’s players joining him on the all-league team were Doug Dekoning in the outfield and Ryan Schilter, a catcher and outfielder, who was named the all-league utility player.
