A’s Stay in Race; Beat Oshkosh; Big Games Sunday

The Sheboygan A’s are still in the race.
In one of their finer efforts in recent weeks, the A’s held on to beat the Oshkosh Giants, 7-5 at Wildwood Park Friday night The win keeps them up to fourth place in the Wisconsin State League.
The A’s are 23-19 overall and 10-13 in the WSL.
The key was another great start.
This time it was Mitchell Gardner, who pitched seven strong innings, but was then nicked for two in the eighth to make it interesting. Jake Ristow pitched the ninth for the save.
Gardner struck out eight and walked three in his eight innings. He goes to 1-1. Ristow picked up his second save.
Oshkosh took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning, but the A’s came back with a pair of runs in their half on Joey Patzman’s hit and an error.
The A’s took the lead in the fifth when Ryan Schilter led off with a long double that ignited a 4-run inning. Patzman got an RBI on a bases-loaded walk and Matt Schilter drove in two runs with a double.
Although it got a little hairy in both the eighth and ninth innings, the As held on for the win when Alex Erdmann made a defensive gem to end the game.
Matt Schilter and Jordan Rennicke both had three hits for the A’s.
The A’s play a split doubleheader Sunday hosting Menasha at 1 pm and Manitowoc at 5. Both teams are in the in the thick of the NEW pennant race.
