‘Storms’ Turn Back A’s; Wings & Things Tonight

Posted: July 21, 2010

The Storms did in the Sheboygan A’s Tuesday
night.

A thunderstorm halted the game for an hour and
42 minutes.  The Green Bay Storm scored four runs in the ninth
inning to erase a 5-4 A’s lead and post an 8-5 win.

The loss was a painful one for the A’s,
who were knocked out of the top spot in the league standings.
The delay and a collision with an umpire added to the
pain.

The Storm opened the top of the ninth
with two infield hits.  Then came a sacrifice bunt and an
intentional walk.  Bases loaded and not a ball hit out of the
infield.  Justin Sizemore addressed that issue and smoked a
double to deep right-center to knock in two runs.

Then came a play that a 50-year baseball observer claimed he
had never seen before. With runners on second and third the
infield was “in.”  So was the umpire.
A’s shortstop Taylor Schwarz collided with the umpire
in an attempt to field a ground ball.  The collision kept him
from getting to it.  It went for another hit and two more runs
scored.  Instead of the A’s having a play at the
plate, Green Bay had an 8-5 lead.

As it
turned out, it didn’t make any difference as the A’s couldn’t
get anything going in the bottom of the ninth.

Greg
Blohowiak, the third and final A’s pitcher, took the tough
loss.  Mitch Gardner pitched four strong middle innings in
relief of starter Eric King, whose start was stopped by the
weather.

Matt Schilter, Doug Dekonikng and Kyle
Edlhuber all had two hits for the A’s.

Now
in the throes of a 5-game losing streak, the A’s are 20-17
overall and 7-5 in the Northeastern League.

Tonight Manitowoc invades in Legend Larry’s Wings &
