A’s Beat Oshkosh in 10

Posted: July 16, 2010

For the second straight game, the Sheboygan A’s came back from a 4-run deficit to nab a win.

Trailing 7-3 in the fifth inning, the A’s chipped away to gain a tie and eventually a 9-8 win over the Oshkosh Giants in 10 innings.

The game was a marathon and more than a little ragged. Joining the 17 runs in contributing to the piling of time to nearly four hours were a combined 24 hits, 17 walks and 10 errors.

But it was all worth it for the loyal A’s fans who stuck it out to the end.

Phil Kramsky doubled in two runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game and Kramsky was at the plate in the bottom of the 10th when the winning run scored on a wild pitch.

Kyle Edlhuber’s clutch hit keyed the A’s go ahead 2-run first inning.

Oshkosh took the lead with some big crooked number innings, getting four back in the second on Bobby Kachel’s grand slam home run and scored three more in the seventh, two on Doug Beattie’s home run. It was 7-3 at that point.

But in the sixth, Edlhuber and Taylor Schwarz hit run-scoring singles. 7-5.

In the seventh, Ryan Schilter drove in a run with a base hit. 7-6.

An error helped Oshkosh ro a run n the seventh for 8-6, but an error and a walk set the table for Kramsky, who knocked in both runs with a double to left-center. 8-8.

Connor Lenz came on and shut down Oshkosh in the ninth and 10th, although not without some anxious moments.

Schwarz led off the A’s 10th with a base hit and sprinted all the way to third when the ball was mishandled in the outfield. Oshkosh walked the next two hitters and brought in the infield for a force at home plate and a potential double play. But the strategy went awry when Tony Mrkvicka fired a wild pitch and Schwarz raced home to score without a play.

Matt Schilter had three hits for the A’, while Doug Dekoning, Edlhuber, Schwarz and Justin hunt all had two. Lenz was the winning pitcher.
