A’s, Braves Split Series

Posted: June 21, 2010

The Addison Braves got even for a 13-3 thumping administered by the Sheboygan A’s Saturday night by taking two of three games on Sunday.

A raging storm left Addison without power Saturday night and tht two teams had to suspend the second game after three innings until Sunday because of darkness. The A’s were leading by a 2-0 score at the time, but Addison roared back on Sunday for a 14-4 victory.

After that, the A’s Sunday’s first regularly scheduled game, 4-2, and then lost the finale when Addison pulled out the victory with two runs in the bottom of the final seventh inning.

Eric Van Beck threw a 3-hitter for the first game win on Sunday. Jack Larsen was strong through six in the second game, but Addison figured him out in the seventh and wrecked the A’s 2-1 lead with a pair or runs and a come-from-behind 3-2 victory.

Doug Dekoning, Jared Fon and Kyle Edlhuber all drove in three runs in the A’s run rule victory in the series opener Saturday to support winning pitcher Connor Lenz, who came on in the fifth inning after the big win was assured to save Archie some pitches. Archie had volunteered to start the next game as well for the A’s whose pitching plans for the weekend were disrupted when they found that their Sunday starter Mitch Arens wold be unavailable due to a broken leg suffered in a jet-ski accident. The plan worked as Archie shut out Addison in the first two innings, and Ryan Eigenberger shut them out in the third to give the A’s their 2-0 lead.

But when the game was picked up on Sunday, Addison scored six runs in the fourth, another in the fifth, and seven in the sixth to walk off the field with a run rule victory.

Matt Schilter drove in two runs and Ryan Schilter and Taylor Schwarz both had two hits in support of Van Beck as the A’s won their second game Sunday.

In the finale, the A;s took a 2-0 lead with Gabe Marshall and Ross Fassbinder driving in the runs. The A’s took a 2-1 lead into the ninth, but two hits and a walk set up Dave CaigliA’s 2-run walkoff single that drove in the tying and winning runs.

The A’s travel to Kenosha Monday and then return to Wildwood Park Wednesday night to play the Denmark Devil Bears in a 7:30 outing. The A’s are 11-4 after the weekend and 2-2 in the State League.
