A’s Win on Wild 3-Hitter; Tuesday Kenosha Game Off

Posted: June 8, 2010

BULLETIN: Tonight’s game at Kenosha (Tuesday, June 8) has been cancelled due to the rain and wet grounds. Rescheduled date will be announced shortly.

Kevin Wild threw a 100-pitch, 3-hit shutout at the Plymouth Flames as the A’s rolled to their fifth win against no losses in this early 2010 season.

The A’s managed only five hits off three Plymouth pitchers but made them count in the 5-0 victory that pushed their season record to 5-0.

The club takes that 5-0 record to Kenosha tonight for their baptismal Wisconsin State League game. Jack Larsen is scheduled to start.

The A’s manufactured a run in the first inning off Plymouth starter Evan Walsh when Matt Schilter singled, Taylor Schwarz walked, both were balked up and Matt scored on Ryan Schilter’s sacrifice fly.

That run would have been enough for Wild, who allowed only one Plymouth base runner (Ryan Wachter, who singled in the fifth) to get as far as second base. He struck out eight and walked only one.

Walsh, who was nearly as effective as Wild, surrendered only one more run, unearned in the fifth. Walsh limited the A’s to just three hits in his six innings.

The A’s scored three in the seventh and eighth off Plymouth’s relief corps. Jordan Rennicke and Jared Fon got the RBI hits and Kyle Edlhuber hit a sacrifice fly. Rennicke had two of the A’s five hits.

Following tonight’s game in Kenosha, the A’s return home Wednesday night to take on the Kewaskum A’s.

A’s Notes: The A’s have asked their fans to mark Thursday, June 17, on their calendars. The A’s will hold a special benefit for one of their former players, Mark Reinemann, who has run into serious health problems, at that game.
