A’s Beat Branch

Posted: May 29, 2010

For the second time in as many nights, the Sheboygan A’s waited until the middle innings to get rolling against a Shoreland League team.

The A’s broke up a 0-0 tie with five runs in the fourth inning and went on to an 11-2 win over the game Branch Blaze Friday night at Wildwood Baseball Park.

“I wouldn’t read too much into this one; it was strictly an exhibition,” general manager Denny Moyer said. “When Little Chute folded we needed a ball game and A.J. (Lorrigan, Branch GM) helped us out. They have a league doubleheader at Kewaunee Saturday afternoon and they were saving their pitching. I’m grateful they gave us a game.”

A’s starter Bryan Dominick dominated the early innings. He went five with 11 strikeouts and yielded only two hits. Unfortunately for the A’s it was the last game he will pitch for them for quite awhile. He signed to play with the Hornel Dodgers of the New York Collegiate League.

Tyler Engler threw three hitless innings and Jake Ristow finished up.

Ross Fassbinder led the A’s at the plate with three hits. Taylor Schwarz had a pair of doubles, Matt Schilter a single and a double, Ryan Schilter and Kyle Edlhuber two hits and Gabe Marshall a three-run home run.

Matt Schilter joined Marshall with a 3-RBI night and Fossbinder drove in two.

Adam Weidner, Beau Steinke and Justin Otto shared Branch’s three hits.

After a long holiday weekend off, the A’s play at Howards Grove next Wednesday and will open Northeastern Wisconsin League play at home on Thursday, June 3 against De Pere.
