Posted: July 18, 2009

Tremendous pitching performance and timely hitting by Nohl Depies gave the Sheboygan A’s a doubleheader sweep over the Janesville Aces and extend their current winning streak to four.

Scores Saturday night at Wildwood Baseball Park were 7-2 behind Gabe Marshell who threw a 6-hitter and 7-0 in the nightcap behind the 1-hit shutout of Ryan Schmitz.

Marshall had a shutout going until the fifth when a bunt single led off the inning, but he got the next two outs, only to see Jeff Bronkema and Kyle Edlhuber follow them with base hits for one run and then awild pitch allowed the second to score. Other than that inning, Nor one Janeville Ace reached second base.

The other side of the scorebook saw the A’s enjoy two big innings.  Depies drove in the first of five runs he would knock in on the day following a walk and a hit batsman. Jordan Rennicke’s perfectily executed safety squeeze brought in another and a throwing error got the third. Depies’ 2-run double followed an error and two walks for the first two fourth inning runs and follow-up RBI singles by Kreston Albright and Schmitz ended the game’s scoring.

Depies finished with a single and double for three runs batted in. Albright had two singles. Marshall finished with two strikeouts.  Edlhuber had two hits for Janesville,  Tervor Foss took the loss for Janesville.

Schmitz fanned 13 and gave up only one hit, a lead-off single by Ben Fuhrman in the fifth inning.

The A’s got three runs in the second inning when Taylor Schwarz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for one run and then Matt Schilter smacked a double to drive in two more. The thieri inning saw Kreston Albright lead off with a walk and come all the way around on throwing errors.  After that a hit by Marshall, another error and an RBI single by Rennicke accounted for the other run of the third inning.  Depies drove in two runs with a double in the sixth after Mitchell Gardner singled and Schilter walked.
