A’s Snap Loss Streak; Play Tonight, Saturday

Posted: July 17, 2009

While it didn’t look good at the start, it looked great at the finish.

The Sheboygan A’s spotted De Pere four runs in the first inning, but rallied for a 15-8 Northeastern Wisconsin League victory at Wildwood Baseball Park Thursday night.

The win puts the A’s at 15-1 in the Northeastern and 25-16 overall.

Tonight the A’s host Little Chute in Firh Fry Friday with Charter Communications and the Sheboygan Optimist Club coming out and Saturday is a doubleheader against Janesville beginning at 5 p.m. Perch lunches and sandwiches will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. tonight in the Park’s tailgate area.

In his first appearance since rolling an ankle nearly a month ago, Brad Mey started for the A’s and it appeared as though it was going to be a brief appearance: De Pere’s first six hitters reached base. The River Bandits came in with four runs in the first ining, but after that Mey settled down and recorded 12 straight outs before his lack of work ran him out of rhythm and he gave way to relief in the form of Lucas Wilsing and then Derrick Pankow. The relievers got the job done with Wilsing getting a win and Pankow a save as the A’s bats finally came alive — althought there was considerable assistance from De Pere’s shabby defense.

Tim Patzman hit a solo home run in the first ining. Rnay Schmitz got a big 2-run single to lead a 3-run second, and Gabe Marshall and Patzman both doubled in the 5-run fifth. By then it was 9-7 and two more 3-run innings would put it away.

Patzman drove in three runs with three hits. Schmitz drove in two with three hits, David Novak recorded three hits and Marshall and Taylor schwarz both had two.

Marshall is scheduled to start tonight against Little Chute.
