Menasha Stops A’s, 6-3; Tri-Parish Night Tonight

Posted: July 9, 2009

The Menasha MACs hit the Sheboygan A’s with four first inning runs, added two in the second and held on for a 6-3 Northeastern Wisconsin League win in Menasha Monday night.

Menasha got five hits in the first inning and three more in the second off of Derrick Pankow to score those runs, but after that, Pankow limited the hard-hitting MACs to just three base hits the rest of the way. He posted six straight shutort innings and, save for a throwing error that allowed a runner to reach, would have had 14 straight outs.

But Brad Schreiber was just as effective for the MACs. He fanned 10 and walked but one in seven innings.

The A’s loaded the bases in the first, but couldn’t score. In the third they strung five hits to score three runs, but after that Schrreiber didn’t allow a base runner until the ninth when Jordan Rennicke drew a walk and Justin Hunt got a base hit tp give the A’s a shot with the top of the order up and the tying run at the plate. Two ground outs ended the contest.

Matt Schilter, Kreston Albright, Ryan Schmitz, Nohl Depies and Gabe Marshall all hit safely in the fifth when the A;s scored their three runs, and that could have been more as a strikeout and ground out ended the inning with runners on second and third. Three times in the game, A’s batsmen struck out with runners on third with one out or less.

Tonight (Tuesday) is Tri-Parish Night with Ss. Curil & Methodius, St. Peter Claver and Immaculate Conception parishes all joining in on a tailgate and game outing before the A’s entertain the Appleton Legends.
