A’s Beat Green Bay 6-5; Peabody Pizza Night Tonight

Posted: June 24, 2009

When the Sheboygan As lost at Oshkosh Tuesday night, it wasn’t pretty. In fact, it was your basic ugly.

When the Sheboygan A’s beat Green Bay Wednesday night, it wasn’t pretty either – at least until the end.

In the seventh inning, Ryan Schmitz delivered a 2-out, 2-run double that gave the A’s a 6-5 lead. In the ninth, David Novak threw a missile to home plate to cut down what would have been the tying run and save the win.

Suddenly things were pretty again. The A’s broke a 4-game losing streak and surged to 10-0 in the Northeastern Wisconsin League and 16-7 overall.

The club is home again tonight, taking on league-leading Kenosha in a 7:30 p.m. start at Wildwood Baseball Park.

Three straight doubles – Justin Hunt, Kreston Albright and Lucas Wilsing – gave the A’s a 2-1 lead in the third inning. But Green Bay scored three in the fifth and another in the seventh for a 5-3 lead.

With one out in the seventh, Tim Patzman and Lucas Wilsing got base hits and after a second out Novak walked to load the bases. Then Schmitz came to the batters’ box and drove in two runs with his bases loaded double to tie the game.

An error helped Taylor Schwarz score the go-ahead run in the eighth and then came Novak’s heroics to save the game.

Wilsing and Schmitz had two hits for the A’s. Bryan Dominick was the winning pitcher in relief of Kevin Wild.

Both pitchers made their first appearances on the mound for the A’s and performed creditably. Four errors, which ran the total to nine in the last two games, was the key factor in the early game unprettiness.

The A’s host Kenosha tonight at 7:30 at Wildwood Park. It is Peabody Pizza night. Discount coupons will be given away to those fans who pay their way into the ball park and pizzas will be given away.

Saturday is Hall of Fame Night. Tim Spiro will be inducted into the A’s hall between games of the Addison doubleheder. Sunday is Chuck Zeichert Day. One of the A’s founders, and a former player, manager and club president, Zeichert will be recognized between games.

Saturday’s games are set for a 6 p.m. start, Sunday’s for 1 p.m.
