Torrid Berkovitz Leads A’s Win

Posted: May 28, 2008

Grant Berkovitz is tearing it up.

“Berko” came in with his second 4-for-5 performance in as many nights to lead the Sheboygan A’s to their second win.

Berkovitz pounded out a single, two doubles and a home run to drive in two runs and score four, pacing the A’s to a 9-1 win over Little Chute in the Northeastern Wisconsin League opener for both teams.

Lucas Wilsing had two singles and a double, Graham Bintliff a single and double, Phil Kramsky a pair of singles and Ryan Schmitz a double to lead the 13-hit offense.

Drew Powers provided the A’s with their second straight super pitching performance, allowing just three hits and striking out 13 over seven innings. Zach Hoch and Frank Raff pitched scoreless innings to finish up the game.

The A’s will meet defending East Shore League champion Forest Friday night at 7:30 in their home opener. Mike Rauwerdink is the scheduled starter.

Wilsing’s 2-out single gave the A’s a 1-0 lead in the first, but Little Chute knotted the score with an unearned run in its half. The score remained tied until the fourth when Phil Kramsky delivered a run with another 2-out single and Bintliff followed that with a 2-run double. With Powers dominating on the hill, the A’s were in control the rest of the way.
