A’s Capitalize on Denmark’s Miscues in Comeback Win
Posted: July 11, 2025
The Sheboygan A’s flipped the script on Thursday night, overcoming an early deficit and storming back to beat the Denmark Devilbears 10–3 at Wildwood Park in a game that saw Denmark unravel defensively down the stretch.
Denmark looked sharp early, scoring three times over the first two innings to grab a 3–0 lead. A two-out RBI single in the first opened the scoring, and a double down the left field line in the second plated two more. Meanwhile, the A’s offense was quiet through four innings, managing just one hit while stranding several runners.
Things turned in the fifth. Trailing 3–0, the A’s loaded the bases on a hit-by-pitch, a walk, and a single from Jimmy Juergensen. Alex Ames grounded out to bring home the first run, and Connor Lasch followed with a two-run double to left-center, tying the game at 3–3.
The floodgates opened in the sixth. Denmark committed back-to-back errors to start the inning, allowing Sheboygan to grab a 4–3 lead without putting a ball in play. Another error on a grounder to short made it 5–3, and Ames capped the rally with a sharp RBI single to center, giving the A’s their first comfortable cushion of the night at 6–3.
While Denmark was unraveling in the field, the A’s pitching staff was locking in. After starter David Vanic went the first two innings, Casey Stone delivered a dominant four-inning relief appearance, allowing just two hits and striking out five. He worked a clean 1-2-3 inning in the fifth and again in the seventh, needing just 10 pitches to breeze through that frame.
Sheboygan put the game out of reach with a four-run eighth. The rally began with a walk and a single, then two more Denmark errors extended the inning and brought in a pair of runs. Juergensen and Lasch each added RBI singles to pad the lead to 10–3.
Juergensen and Lasch each had two hits and two RBIs to lead the offense. Ames also drove in two and reached base twice. Cal Casper walked three times and scored twice.
The A’s totaled nine hits and drew six walks, but it was Denmark’s eight errors that ultimately told the story. Sheboygan’s defense was crisp throughout, turning two double plays and posting three clean innings—including a 1-2-3 ninth from Bryce Lovisa to close out the win.
The A’s return with home games Friday and Saturday at Wildwood Park. The 2025 season is presented by Meijer.
