There aren’t many positive things to say about the A’s weekend.
A day after getting swept by the Burlington Barons, the A’s had a chance to rebound with two more games against West Allis, a team they beat 9-8 on Thursday. Instead, the Nationals outscored the A’s 23-5 en route to another A’s sweep. The four weekend losses now drop the A’s to an even .500 overall this season at 7-7, and 1-5 in the Wisconsin State League.
As was the case Saturday, walks were again an issue in game one as the A’s pitchers of Brad Rindfleisch and Bennet Becker surrendered eight walks in only four and two-thirds innings as the club was shut out and run-ruled 10-0. Offensively, the team only managed three hits off of Nationals starter Riley Gowens, who struck out eight.
Game two was a case of “too little, too late” as the A’s were down 9-1 before a four-run sixth temporarily made things interesting before the Nationals responded with four more of their own and won 13-5. Harry Steldt’s first-inning home run was his second of the weekend. Steldt was 1-for-2 and drew two walks while Brady Zackrison drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double.
The A’s are back on the road Monday when they head to Menasha for a Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League matchup with the Macs at 7:30 PM.
