The Sheboygan A’s jumped out to a big lead early and held off Appleton for an 8–5 road win at the USA Sports Complex Friday night.
Sheboygan wasted no time in the top of the first, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring four runs. Alex Ames led off with a single, Riley Palmquist followed with an RBI single to right, and Jacob Neese doubled down the left field line to plate another run. Brad Rindfleisch added an RBI single up the middle, and Hudson Wagner capped the inning with an RBI fielder’s choice to give the A’s a 4–0 lead before Appleton recorded its third out.
In the second inning, Neese struck again, doubling to left on a full count to bring home a run and push the advantage to 5–0.
The A’s held Appleton off the board until the sixth, when the hosts hit a solo home run to make it 5–1. Sheboygan immediately responded in the seventh with a pair of insurance runs, capitalizing on a leadoff walk and back-to-back singles. Wagner’s grounder to the right side brought home one run, and a sacrifice fly later in the inning made it 7–1.
Appleton chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and another pair in the eighth to trim the deficit to 7–5, but Sheboygan tacked on one more in the ninth and closed the door in the bottom half.
Ames paced the A’s offense with three hits from the leadoff spot, while Wagner drove in three runs from the seventh slot in the order. Neese and Chase Hanselman each had two hits, and Neese drove in two.
On the mound, Bryce Lovisa turned in a solid start, scattering five hits and allowing just two earned runs over seven innings with five strikeouts and one walk. Neese worked the final two innings in relief to secure the victory, his first appearance on the mound this season.
Defensively, the A’s turned two double plays and were steady in the field behind their pitchers.
Sheboygan now sits at 28-19 overall, an 13-3 in the NEWBL. They will close out their NEWBL regular season with a doubleheader Sunday at Greenville. They will host game one of the NEWBL championship on August 5. Tickets will go on sale soon.
The 2025 season is presented by Meijer.
