A’s Drop Three of Four to Lombard
Posted: June 24, 2024
The A’s traveled across state lines over the weekend to take on the Lombard Orioles. After splitting Saturday’s doubleheader, the Orioles swept the A’s on Sunday to take three of four from the A’s over the weekend, and four of five for the season.
Saturday, Game 1: Lombard 14, Sheboygan 3
The weekend started off rough for the A’s, as they surrendered 14 runs in a blowout loss. Lombard scored four in the first inning and never looked back as they collected 14 hits, and the A’s could only muster up three, two of each were doubles – one each by Harry Steldt and Sean Tillmon. A’s ace Jared Reklaitis got dinged for six earned runs over five innings, while striking out eight.
Saturday, Game 2: Sheboygan 8, Lombard 3
The A’s rebounded nicely in game two, getting solid performances across the board. Gus Walker, Tillmon, Alex Perez, and Chase Hanselman each had multi-hit games, with Steldt and Tillmon each hitting home runs, and Jimmy Juergensen and Tillmon adding doubles. Jason Bunton pitched a complete game for the win.
Sunday, Game 1: Lombard 5, Sheboygan 3
Lombard exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth, and that’s all they needed in their 5-3 win over the A’s. The A’s jumped out front first with two in the third inning on a RBI single by Tillmon, and a ground out by Steldt gave the A’s the early 2-0 lead. Ben Buehring would help the A’s add one more in the sixth to close the gap to 5-3 but that’s as close as the A’s would get. Hunter Netzler took the loss for the A’s, with Kendal Interial pitching 1.2 innings of relief.
Sunday, Game 2: Lombard 9, Sheboygan 2
More big innings doomed the A’s as a pair of four-run outbursts by Lombard helped seal the game away. The A’s again jumped out to a lead early when Brady Zackrison scored on a Juergensen ground out to put the A’s up 1-0 in the second. But consecutive four-run innings by Lombard in the third and fourth were too much for the A’s to overcome as they dropped their third game of the weekend.
The A’s now fall under .500 for the season at at 12-13, and fall way back in the race for the WSL title as they now sit at 4-7. Their next game comes Tuesday at Appleton in Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League play. The 2024 season is presented by Meijer.
