Walker’s Grad Slam Not Enough as A’s Lose Lead Late to Milwaukee

Posted: June 22, 2023

Gus Walker (Marian University) hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning, but that would be all the offense the A’s would muster Wednesday night, as the Milwaukee Heavy Hitters would take the lead in the eighth and win 6-4.

The A’s would get only one base hit after the third inning as Milwaukee limited the A’s to just five hits on the evening.

Milwaukee would use 13 hits, and six walks to keep the A’s defense on their toes throughout the game.

On in relief of starter Dawson Selvoski (Ripon College) who pitched the first five innings, Michael Martinez (Marian University) pitched a solid sixth and seventh inning for the A’s, but began to fatigue in the eighth where Milwaukee would take advantage with two walks, two singles, and a double to jump in front. Anthony Yust (Lakeland University), making his first appearance of the season, finished off the last 1.2 innings in relief.

The non-league loss to Milwaukee drops the A’s overall record this season to 15-11.

Thursday the A’s begin play in the Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Classic when they take on the Sussex Cardinals at 6:30 PM in West Bend. They are back home at Wildwood Park Friday at 7:30 PM against the Milwaukee Beavers.
