A’s Rally Not Once, but Twice From Four Down to Defeat West Allis

The A’s certainly didn’t make things easy on themselves Thursday night.
Trailing by four runs after the top of the first, the A’s chipped away and evened the game, only to find themselves down by four once again, but a little late-game magic helped the team grab a 9-8 victory over West Allis Thursday night. The win improves the club’s overall record to 7-3 and evens their record in the Wisconsin State League at 1-1.
Trailing 8-6 entering the bottom of the eighth, Justin Schnell (UW-Stout) led off the inning by getting walked on five pitches. Two batters later, Gus Walker (Marian University) laid down a bunt to move Schnell over, but an errant throw by the Nationals pitcher allowed Schnell to move all the way to third and Walker over to second. After a Ross Krist (UW-Platteville) ground out to score Schnell, Nationals pitchers proceeded to walk four straight A’s batters to give the A’s the lead.
Eric Schmitz (UW-Whitewater Alum), who came on in relief of starter Noah Imrie (Marian University Alum) in the sixth, picked up the win, getting the final three Nationals batters out in succession.
Jacob Neese (Parkland CC) and Riley Palmquist (Marian University) each led the A’s with three hits and four total bases apiece. Neese, Palmquist, and Schnell each had a double as the A’s pounded out 12 hits. The Nationals issued eight walks.
Up next for the A’s, a four-game Wisconsin State League weekend that begins with a doubleheader Saturday at 4 PM in Burlington against the Barons. The A’s will then play a doubleheader Sunday against the Nationals. Those games will also be played in Burlington. The A’s return home Saturday, June 11 when the annual Wisconsin State League Challenge takes place in Sheboygan, where all seven State League teams come to town for regular-season games at a neutral site.
The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels). All Sheboygan A's home games are played at Wildwood Baseball Park in Sheboygan. Connect with the A's on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
