Errors Cost A’s in Season Opening Loss

Posted: May 28, 2015

WEST BEND – Using physical and mental errors as their shovels, the Sheboygan A’s dug a hole for themselves and in the eighth inning former teammate Sam Mattheis buried them in it with a bases loaded double that ensured a season-opening defeat for the A’s.

The final score from Regner Park was 7-2.

The A’s took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Wyatt Olson doubled and scored on Taylor Schwarz’s single. Mattheis’ first RBI tied the game in the fifth and a pair of A’s errors gave West Bend a 4-1 lead in the sixth.

Dylan Detert’s leadoff double and Harry Steldt’s RBI single brought the score to a manageable 4-2 where it stayed until Mattheis blew the game apart in the eighth.

Ryan Adam had three hits and Detert two in their A’s debuts. Schwarz also had two hits.

Brandon Winfield got off to a good start, but suffered through some error-aided long innings and took the loss.

The A’s home opener is Friday night against West Allis. Gametime is 7:30 PM. It is Project G.R. I.L.L. Night and fans are encouraged to come early to see the grills created and fabricated by area high school students.

The A’s are frantically trying to get season ticket books delivered to fans who purchased them before Friday’s game, but will have them available at the game for pickup by fans who did not get them in advance.
