Evans, Heili Return to A’s

Posted: March 17, 2013

Two more players have signed on with the Sheboygan A’s for the 2013 season.

Grant Evans, adept at every defensive position, and outfielder Cole Heili have rejoined the club.

After joining the club following his 2010 and 2011 Legion seasons, Evans played his first full season last year and came in with an overall .286 average in 43 games. He spent most of his time in the outfield, but the former South High School player can also catch and play the infield.

A civil engineering Naval ROTC student at Purdue University, Evans is in the starting line-uP for the club team there.

His 38 hits for the A’s last summer included eight doubles and a triple. He also led the club with four sacrifice bunts. He hit .446 in his senior year in high school.

Heili, a standout high school athlete at Sheboygan Falls High School, is currently a freshman redshirt at the University of Evansville. He joined the A’s after completing his high school season last summer and appeared in seven games with the club.

Heili was a three-sport athlete and four-year baseball letterwinner at Falls. A first team all-state selection he was runner-up for player of the year honors and was a two-time academic all-stater. He hit .576 as a senior and .500 as a junior at Sheboygan Falls. He was a two-time all-district, two-time all-conference and two-time conference player of the year as he led the Falcons to two straight State Tournament appearances.

“Grant bailed us out time after time last summer as a utility player and by mid-season we couldn’t keep him out of the line-up. He was really productive,” general manger Denny Moyer said.

“Cole showed remarkable composure for a high school grad when he joined us last year. He and Grant will both be in the mix this summer.

“It is really gratifying to see talented local kids accepting the challenge that our program presents,” Moyer added.
