A’s suffer tough defeat to Manitowoc

Posted: June 22, 2012

The Sheboygan A’s couldn’t do anything with Manitowoc’s Matt Roberts, while Bandit hitters were having their way with Sheboygan pitching to the tune of 14 hits and posted a 12-2 victory.

The loss leaves the A’s at 0-4 in the Wisconsin State League, 4-5 in the Northeastern Wisconsin State League and 11-8 overall.

The club will play four games in Suburban Chicago this weekend, two at Addison Saturday night and two at Lombard Sunday afternoon.

The A’s are bracing for a tough weekend. Shortstop Trevor Theissen joined the injury list last night as a bad hop hit him in the mouth Concussion precautions in addition to the wound are likely to sideline him for the weekend. Ryan Schilter (back) and Matt Bromley (arm) have injury problems.

“This weekend is going to be a real challenge.” said A’s general manager Denny Moyer

“Between injuries and work conflicts a lot of piecing together is going to take place,” he said. “We’re scrambling.”

The A’s scored a run in the first, but Manitowoc hit the A’s with four in its half and never relinquished the lead. Alex Larsen’s grand slam home run added to the lead in the seventh. And four more in the eighth supplied the 10-run difference that mercifully ended the game.

Taylor Schwarz had two of the A’s seven hits. Mitch Gardner took the loss.
