A’s Alumni Report: Feb. 27

Each week leading up to the season, SheboyganBaseball.org will look at how some Sheboygan A’s alumni, and A’s signed on for the current season are doing in their collegiate and professional seasons.

Valparaiso University
Kevin Wild (2009, 2010) helped lead Valparaiso University to an upset of #4 Arkansas on Sunday February 26th. Wild started the game, pitching four innings, recording two strikeouts while facing 26 batters. Wild allowed 10 hits in total. Valparaiso went on to win the game 10-9. Wild is 0-0 on the year, with two starts and nine innings pitched for the Crusaders.


University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee
The UWM Panthers split their weekend series at the University of Minnesota, dropping games one and two by scores of 1-0 and 5-3, before picking up wins in the final two games of the series by scores of 3-1 and 6-1.

Greg Blohowiak (2009, 2010) appeared in relief in three of the four games on the weekend. Blohowiak pitched a total of 3.1 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out two and allowing only one run.

Ryan Solberg (2011) hit in two games for the Panthers, going 1-6 at the plate. Solberg also reached base on a walk in game three of the series.

Eric King (2010) pitched 1.1 innings of relief in game two of the series, scattering three hits and allowing one run on eight batters faced.

Alex Erdmann (2010) saw his second stint of pitching on the season in game four. Erdmann recorded one strikeout in .2 innings pitched. Erdmann allowed zero hits in his relief appearance.

University of Illinois – Chicago
Collin Weyer (2011) saw relief appearances in three of UIC’s four games on the weekend against Santa Clara. Weyer pitched two innings in each of his first two appearances, allowing one hit, zero runs, zero walks, and striking out two. Santa Clara got the better of Weyer in his third relief appearance, when Weyer could only pitched .1 innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs, facing four batters. The UIC Flames split their series with Santa Clara 2-2.

Missouri Southern State University
Cody Griebling (2009) was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office last week. Griebling picked up a complete-game victory against Concordia-St. Paul in his season, scattering six hits as he went nine innings and struck out four to earn the win in just an hour and 56 minutes. He allowed just one run and walked two. He retired 12 of the first 14 batters he faced in the game.

Missouri Southern is 7-0 on the year. Griebling for the season is 2-0, with a 0.56 ERA and eleven strikeouts in 16 innings.

Point Loma Nazarene University
Jack Archie (2010, 2011) fell to 1-2 with a 5-2 loss against The Master’s College after allowing three runs (two earned) in seven innings on February 23.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
