A three-league, 54-game regular season schedule could give Sheboygan A’s fans more than 30 home games in this 50th anniversary season depending on how the playoffs sort out.

The city’s baseball club released a 2012 schedule that opens with a 3-game Memorial Day series against the Manistee, Mich., Saints. The Saints will be here for a 4 p.m. doubleheader May 26 and a single game May 27.

The May 26 opener will be preceded by an afternoon long opening day brat fry and music fest at Wildwood Park, the site of all A’s home games.

The Manistee games will be the only exhibition games the club will play this year as affiliation with the Langsdorf League of Southeastern Wisconsin, the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League and the Wisconsin State League will pack 51 games into the 2½-month schedule.

The Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball Leauge opener brings the Menasha MACs to town May 30, the Langsdorf League of Southeastern Wisconsin opener is a doubleheader against the West Allis Nationals June 2 and the Wisconsin State League opener takes place at Oshkosh June 4 against the Giants.

Both the Langsdorf and Northeastern leagues have championship-determining playoffs at season’s end. The Langsdorf play-in series is held from July 26-28 with the best of three championship July 31, Aug. 2 and 4. The Northeastern semifinals are Aug. 6-9 and the championship series Aug. 10-12.

A number of promotions are lined up for this anniversary season. One of the biggest weekends of the year will be the official 50th Anniversary Celebration held July 21-22. Among the weekend’s highlights will be the induction of Clay Schwartz into the A’s Hall of Fame on July 21 and the reunion of all players who have played for the A’s in the past on July 22.

A’s Notes:
Season ticket prices for the expanded 2012 season remain unchanged: Cost is $50 for Box Seat, $40 for Grandstand and $30 for General Admission. Tickets are at the printer now and the A’s are accepting orders.

A special 50th Anniversary Program is being put together for the season and the organization is currently contacting advertisers. Businesses and organizations that have not placed ads in the past are invited to contact the club.

Groups who have held nights and tailgate outings at the park will be contacted in the next couple weeks. Persons interested in organizing outings for the first time should contact the club.

Former A’s player Michael Casper will be inducted into the Wisconsin State League Hall of Fame at the league banquet Jan. 28 at The Bull. It is open to the public, but interested persons must contact the club immediately.

A night of fun is set for Feb. 3 when the Athletic Club is planning an excursion to a Green Bay Gamblers hockey game. Members of the general public are welcome to join the fun.

To date two players have sent in commitments to play in the 2012 season. Infielder-pitcher Sam Raff (UW-Platteville) and Jake Schaefer (Clarke College, Dubuque, IA) are on board. Raff is from Sheboygan and played for South High and the Sheboygan Legion team, where he was named the most valuable defensive player two straight years. Schaefer is another product from the powerful Waukesha West High School program, where he captained the team.
