Patzman Voted A’s MVP Again

Posted: January 9, 2012

For the third time in the last four years, Tim Patzman was elected the 2011 Most Valuable Player for the Sheboygan A’s by vote of his teammates.

Patzman won the award in 2008 and 2009, but missed the 2010 season with an injury. The left-handed hitter, who played at UW-Milwaukee, was also this year’s leading hitter with a .313 average and was named the first All-WSL team.

Patzman also led the club in doubles, home runs, slugging percentage, on base percentage, at bats, hits and runs batted in and posted a number of game-winning hits..

Ben Stanczyk was named most valuable pitcher and Grant Berkovitz most valuable defensive player. Stanczyk went 6-0 with a 1.90 earned run average. Berkovitz was the glue of the A’s infield from his shortstop position. Both are also former UWM players and Stanczyk played several years in the Milwaukee Brewers system.

The other major team award, the Sine Qua Non Award, was presented to first year manager Shaun Wegner, who guided the team to a 32-17 record in 2011, second place finisher in the Northeastern Wisconsin League and third place finisher in the Wisconsin State League.

Four major club awards were presented at the banquet. Scott Stangel was presented with the Golden A Award as the club member with the most notable volunteer contributions, Donna Moyer was given a special award for her many years of committed service, Ken Horkan of Culvers Butterburgers and Frozen Custard, was named Sponsor of the Year and Mark Winkel was honored as Fan of the Year.
