A’s Join Langsdorf League of Southeastern Wisconsin

Posted: December 11, 2011

The Sheboygan A’s have been accepted for play in the 2012 season by the Frank Langsdorf Baseball League of Southeast Wisconsin.

The city semi-pro ball club is in the process of finalizing its 2012 schedule that will include play in the Wisconsin State Baseball League and the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League.

With the addition of Langsdorf games, the A’s will play about a 54-game schedule plus the potential for playoffs this season.

The A’s join the Burlington Barons, Genoa City Red Dogs, Kenosha Bobcats, Kenosha Kings, Racine Kiwanis and West Allis Nationals in the Langsdorf. The Kings, who also compete in the State League, won the Langsdorf last year, beating West Allis in the best of three championship series.

“The Langsdorf has a long tradition of great baseball, and we are proud to be accepted,” said A’s general manager Denny Moyer.

“Joining the new league eliminates the hassle of trying to schedule exhibition games,” Moyer said. “Our players much prefer to play games that are meaningful. Now all of our games will ‘count’,” he said.

If the A’s go all the way, the season will run from May 26 to Aug. 12 (the Langsdorf playoffs run from July 26 through August 4, the NEW playoffs from August 6 through August 12.

A’s Notes:
The tentative opener for the team is a Memorial Day weekend series against an old foe, the Manistee, MI Saints. They came across the lake in 1971 for a game and the two clubs have made several unsuccessful efforts to schedule since then. This year it appears the Memorial Day weekend will work out.

Season ticket certificates, spirit wear, quad style bag chairs and ornaments are available for Christmas giving. Fans can order by calling 920-458-6377 or emailing sac@excel.net.

The Sheboygan Athletic Club extends an invitation to the community to join them in three events they are hosting. The annual awards dinner is January 7, the Wisconsin State League Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner is January 28 and an excursion to a Green Bay Gamblers game is February 3. Information is available at the above contact number and email address.

The club reports that 30 community members have joined the A’s bonding program for a total of $4,400. Bonding information is available on the website, www.sheboyganbaseball.org.
