Wegner, Reschke Honored by N.E.W.

Sheboygan A’s Manager Shaun Wegner was named co-manager of the year, and second baseman Charlie Reschke was named to the first All League team this week at the Northeastern Wisconsin League fall meeting.

Wegner shared the honor with Manitowoc’s Nat Richter. Manitowoc emerged as the league champion, beating out Sheboygan in the best-of-three championship playoff. Manitowoc won the regular season title with a 17-3 record, followed by the A’s at 12-8. Manitowoc went 4-1 in the playoffs, Sheboygan 3-2.

Reschke hit .310 in the league this year to earn one of the all-league infield spots.

A’s players named to the second all league team were pitcher Ben Stanczyk, and outfielders Tim Patzman and Colin Willis. Outfielder Derek Peake received honorable mention. Peake (.352), and Willis (.333) joined Reschke as .300 hitters for the A’s. Stanczyk at 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA led pitchers.

Taking top league honors were Max Stepan of Manitowoc, who was named Most Valuable Player, Brock Guetzke of Oshkosh, the league’s leading hitter (.438), was named Rookie of the Year, and Liam O’Brien of Manitowoc was named pitcher of the year.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
