A’s Roll to Tie Championship Series

Posted: August 11, 2011

One thing is certain about the 2011 Sheboygan A’s.

When they are good, they are really good.

The A’s were “good” Wednesday night at Wildwood Baseball Park.

They supported Ben Stanczyk’s 5-hit pitching with 15 hits and 14 runs in their six offensive innings to rack up a 14-3 mercy rule victory over the Manitowoc Bandits and tie the best of three series at a game apiece.

The Northeastern Wisconsin League championship will be decided in Manitowoc tonight when the two teams square off at 7:30 p.m. at Municipal Field.

Stanczyk fanned 10 in his five-hitter over seven innings and goes to 6-0 for the season and 14-1 in his career with the A’s.

Grant Berkovitz had a single, double and triple to lead the red-hot offense and Colin Willis, Tim Patzman, Ryan Solberg, Harry Steldt and Derek Peake all had two hits with one of Solberg’s being a home run.

Manitowoc opened scoring in the first inning on Max Stepan’s home run, but the A’s put two 5-run innings together in the third and fourth and won going away. Sam Spurney also homered for the Bandits.

The A’s take a 32-16 record into tonight’s championship game.
