Fast Menasha Start Too Much for A’s

Posted: June 29, 2011

The Menasha MACs scored four runs in the first inning and rode it out for a 5-3 victory over the Sheboygan A’s Tuesday night.

The win moves the MACs to 5-3 in the Northeastern Wisconsin League and drops the A’s to 3-4. The A’s are now 10-7 for the season.

Two defensive misplays were followed by back-to-back doubles by Menasha in the first inning to account for the four runs.

The A’s had opportunities, but couldn’t capitalize. Tim Patzman’s 1-out triple drove in a run to make the score 4-2, but nobody could knock him in. Then, with the score 5-3, the A’s had the tying runs on in two separate innings only to have the failure to put the bat on the ball end the threats.

Colin Willis had two of the A’s six hits. Eric Van Back, who emerged from the bad start with strong innings until tiring in the seventh, took the loss. Steven Blader struck out a dozen A’s in his seven innings for Menasha. Max Frederick got the save.

Tonight the A’s return to Wisconsin State League play hosting the Kenosha Kings at Wildwood at 7:30 p.m. Tonight is Gene Kopp American Family Agency Night and the South High Drum Line will perform before the game. The A’s are off Thursday for their scheduled bingo session at Ss. Cyril and return to Wildwood Baseball Park Friday to play Saukville on Fish Fryday Night.
