Kings Get Edged by A’s

Fresh from losing their two top pitchers to the Northwoods League, the Sheboygan A’s got exactly what they needed — a stellar pitching performance. Starter Jack Larsen threw seven-plus innings, striking out 11 and only walking two as the A’s held on for 7-6 victory over the Kenosha Kings on Tuesday.
Kenosha’s Jason Acevedo broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning when he drove in two runs with a single to left.
Sheboygan cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning when Doug Dekoning drove in Matt Schilter on a single. Dekoning would strike again in the fifth, this time tying the game on another single. Sheboygan took its first lead of the game when Cody Marshall singled to left later in the inning. Dekoning would come around to score on a wild pitch.
Phil Kramsky scored what would prove to be the game-winning run in the sixth when he scored on another wild pitch.
The Kings battled back with the help of two A’s errors scoring three in the eighth inning. However, Mitch Gardner needed only five pitches on his way to picking up the save for Sheboygan.
Former A’s pitcher, Jason Bunton took the loss for Kenosha, going seven innings, striking out eight and walking two. Paul Pulera led the Kings at the plate with two hits and an RBI.
Schilter reached base five times for the A’s, going 3-3 with a walk and three stolen bases while also reaching on an error in the third. Justin Hunt also had three hits for Sheboygan.
The A’s are now 24-16 overall and 10-13 in the Wisconsin State League.
The Oshkosh Giants beat the Manitowoc Bandits 8-4 on Tuesday to further jam up the Northeastern Wisconsin League standings. The top six teams are now separated by three games. Sheboygan and tonight’s foe, Appleton, are both one-half game behind Green Bay in the NEW standings. Kevin Wild is scheduled to pitch tonight at Wildwood Baseball Park.
The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
