Orioles Sweep A’s

Posted: July 17, 2010

The Lombard Orioles continued their domination over the Sheboygan A’s, sweeping a doubleheader Saturday at Wildwood Park by scores of 8-0 and 7-5.

The loss drops the A’s to 8-11 in the Wisconsin State League and leaves Lombard in a commanding 18-5 position, still four games ahead of Eau Claire, which swept Oshkosh 6-1 and 7-0. The Addison at Manitowoc game was not reported.

So thorough was Oriole domination last night that in the first game, Matt Erickson threw a no-hitter at the A’s. Matt Schilter ruined the perfect game with a fourth innng walk. Erickson struck out four. Chevy Tollefson took the loss for the A’s going all seven innings, walking four and giving up nine hits. Ryan Faidley had three hits for Lombard.

An error, two hit batsmen and two walk set things up for Rick Angell, who delivered a bases-clearing double to spark Lombard’s 5-run third inning. The A’s closed it to 5-4 in their half of the inning with Kyle Edlhuber’s home run the big blow. Phil Kramsky’s RBI hit kept the A’s close at 6-5, but they wouldn’t score again.

Edlhuber finished with a 4-for-4 game.

Jack Larsen took the loss for the A’s. He was nicked for six runs on five hits and five walks in his five innings.

The A’s had a bad day, there’s no two ways about it. Pitchers give up 11 walks and defenders had six errors.

The same two teams meet Sunday in a 1 p.m. doubleheder. Between games of the doubleheader Dick Rasmussen will be put into the A’s Hall of Fame and Mark Reinemann will be presented with a check for $5,000 from the fund-raiser the A’s held last month.
