A’s 12 hits, 7 Walks Beat Appleton

Posted: July 6, 2010

Getting off to a fast start, the Sheboygan A’s upended the Northeastern Wisconsin League leading Appleton Legends by a 10-6 score on Sponsors and Friends Night at Wildwood Baseball Park Monday.

Uncharacteristic wildness by John Hendrick, the 2009 Northeastern League’s Most Valuable Player, helped the A’s to four runs in the first inning and two more in the second. The A’s were never in danger after that.

Four walks and a hit batsman highlighted the first inning and Doug Dekoning’s triple topped the second as the A’s took their commanding 6-0 lead.

Matt Schilter went 4-for-5, Dekoning 3-for-3 and Taylor Schwarz 3-for-4 to lead A’s hitting.

The A’s hot bats overcame five errors and some base-running blunders that on any other night would have been killers.

Jack Archie got the win after five innings of work. Mitch Gardner and Jake Ristow finished. Hendrick took the loss.

The A’s travel to Oshkosh tonight for a game that counts in both the Wisconsin State League and the Northeastern League standings. The club is home Wednesday night against Menasha on Thrivent Food Pantry Night and the Northeastern Wisconsin League vs. Langsdorf League of Southeastern Wisconsin All-Star Game will be played Friday ngiht. Action starts at 6 p.m. Friday wth the Home Run Contest. The game gets under way at 7:30 p.m.
