A’s Bats Nap in Doubleheader Loss

The Sheboygan A’s season opening 7-game winning streak ended with a double thud in Appleton Saturday afternoon as the Legends snapped up a Northeastern Wisconsin League doubleheader victory by scores of 1-0 and 5-2.

The losses leave the A’s at 7-2 for the season and 1-2 in the Northeastern Wisconsin leaague.

The A’s return to NEW action Monday night at Menasha and then return home for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night games atsinst Oshkosh, Green Bay and De Pere respectively.

Legends lefthander Kevin Kangas threw a 3-hit shutout at the A’s in the first game. The hard-luck loser was Mitch Arenz, who struckout nine, but walked five and limited Appleton to three hits in his 5 2/3 innings. The winning run scored on a wild pitch with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the sixth. Reliever Conner Lenz struck out the hitter with the next pitch.

In the second game, the A;s got only five hits off John Hendrick. Mat Schilter and Doug Dekoning each had two. Chevy Tollefson, who was plagued with control problems (he walked six in 3 1/3 inings), took the loss.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
