A strong pitching performance from first year right-hander Eric Van Beck, 17 hits, and flawless defense gave the Sheboygan A’s their sixth straight victory to start their 2010 season.

The final score was 11-4.

Van Beck, who just completed his freshman year at UW-Stevens Point, took over from starter Ty Engler in the third inning with the score tied, 3-3. He pitched six innings, gaving up just one run on two hits with eight strikeouts before giving way to another first year pitcher, Connor Lenz.

Kyle Edlhuber had four hits, Taylor Schwarz three and Ryan Schilter, Gabe Marshall and Ryan Schmitz two each. Schmitz led the way with four runs batted in. Marshall had two.

The unbeaten A’s are off today, host Cedarburg on Friday and travel to Appleton for a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

The club will be serving pan-fried perch plates and sandwiches prior to Friday night’s game. Serving takes place between 5:45 p.m. and 7:30. Those who purchase a fish plate will be admitted to the game free of charge.
