A’s Post First League Win

Posted: June 4, 2010

The Sheboygan A’s just are not early risers.

In their four games to date, they have scored two of their 43 runs in the first three innings and seven of those 43 in the first four. Ergo, 36 of their 43 runs have come in the final five innings.

The A’s broke from an early 1-0 deficit to score nine runs after the fifth inning and take a 9-1 victory over the De Pere River Bandits in their opening Northeastern Wisconsin League game of the season at Wildwood Park Thursday night.

A clutch 2-out base hit by Matt Schilter pulled the A’s even in the fifth inning. They took the lead at 3-1 in the sixth when three straight extra base hits by Ryan Schmitz, Jared Fon and Justin Hunt gave the A’s the lead they were never to lose. The tacked on three runs in both the seventh and eighth to win going away.

The win puts the A’s at 4-0 in this early season. They host the Chicago Clout in a 5 p.m. game Saturday evening. The A’s will host a “mixer” at 3:30 when they welcome players parents to join club members in a pre-game get-acquainted session in the Wildwood Park tailgate area.

Jack Archie stopped the Bandits on four hits through six innings, striking out seven. Jake Ristow went the final three for the save. Lefthander Casey Meineke, who had the A’s shut out until Schilter’s key fifth-inning hit, took the loss.

Ryan Schmitz was on base five times, and recorded three hits. Jared Fon drove in three runs with two triples, Ryan Schilter drove in two runs with an 8th inning double and Phil Kramsky had two hits.
