A’s Win Opener

The Sheboygan A’s split eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings and went on to post an 11-3 season opening victory over the Two Rivers Polar Bears at Wildwood Park Thursday night.

Tonight the A’s take on the Branch Blaze in a 7:30 p.m. Fish Fryday Night game.

Gabe Marshall had three hits and drove in three runs to lead the way. Ryan Schilter, Ryan Schmitz and Jared Fon all had two hits with Schmitz driving in three runs and Fon a pair.

Will Madson pitched the first six innings to get the win with Ryan Eigenberger going the last three.

The A’s took a 1-0 lead in the first on Schmitz’ double.

Madson and Two Rivers’ Joe Christensen put up goose eggs after that until the A’s scored four runs in the fifth and another four in the sixth to win going away. Schmitz drove in two runs with a double in the fifth and the A’s bunched five hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly to score four more in the sixth.

The A’s recorded 14 hits and played errorless ball.

Madson was working on a shutout until Joe Christianson belted a 2-run home run in the sixth.

Tonight the club will serve pan-fried perch fish lunches and sandwiches beginning at 5:45 p.m. Those who purchase a fish lunch will be admitted to the game free of charge.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
