A’s Announce 2010 Schedule

Posted: March 24, 2010

Heroes of the Diamond, the United States Military All-Start team, will be in Sheboygan on May July 26 as one of three special events and 55 games on the Sheboygan A’s 2010 baseball schedule.

Players from every branch of the service make up the Heroes’ roster. The club barnstorms throughout the country in an effort to create awareness of the military and camaraderie with the public.

Details on the event will be announced as they are worked out. The game and accompanying activities will take place July 26.

The other special attractions are the All-Start game on July 9 that will pit the Northeastern Wisconsin All-Stars against the All-Stars from the Frank Langsdorf League of Southeastern Wisconsin and on July 15 a return appearance by the Greenbush Dead Citys, who will present a baseball history lesson.

The A’s will once again be competing in both the Northeastern League and the Wisconsin State Baseball League. However this year the club is playing more exhibition games than usual as both leagues have cut back their schedules.

Oshkosh has joined the Northeastern League this year, but rather than play a 28-game round-robin schedule, the league opted to play each team three times for a 21 game schedule. Other NEW clubs ate Manitowoc, Green Bay, De Pere, Appleton, Little Chute and Menasha.

Janesville has dropped out of the Wisconsin State League so the teams will be playing 28 games this year instead of 32. The A’s drew home games against Elmhurst and the Chicago Wildcats this year in the Chicago Suburban League Challenge match. The CSL is one of the finest amateur leagues in the country. Other State League Clubs are Manitowoc, Oshkosh, Eau Claire, Kenosha, Lombard and Addison.

The exhibition season this year includes games against the Sheboygan area’s three other semi-pro clubs, Howards Grove, Plymouth and Cleveland who have all agreed to help the club fill out its schedule.

The A’s open their 48th season on Thursday night, May 27 against the Two Rivers Polar Bears.

Season tickets can be ordered now by writing to the ball club at P. O. Box 32, Sheboygan, WI 53083. The club has held season ticket prices to last year’s levels – $50 for box seats, $40 for grandstand seats, and $30 for general admission. The Military game, All-Star Game and Historic Game are all included in the season ticket package.

All home games are at Wildwood Park.

The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
