A’s Go 0-4 During Illinois Weekend

Posted: July 13, 2009

The Sheboygan A’s lost both games of a doubleheader to the host Chicago Wildcats by identical 5-4 scores in the Chicago Suburban League/Wisconsin State League Challenge.

The A’s went 0-4 in the interleague challenge — and those games count in the WSL standings. Sheboygan is now 24-15 overall, 12-14 in the WSL.

In both games, the A’s had four-run innings to take leads. And down 4-3, Chicago scored two runs in bottom of the seventh inning in both games to pull out the victories.

Justin Hunt, Matt Schilter and Nohl Depies all had hits during a four-run fourth. Ryan Schmitz took the loss, allowing only two earned runs. Four errors led to three unearned runs.

In the nightcap, the A’s scored four times in the sixth for a 4-3 lead, with a Tim Patzman three-run home run and Schmitz RBI single.

But in the bottom of the seventh and two outs, A’s pitcher Derrick Pankow walked a batter, and he and manager Chad Gehr were both tossed for arguing. Emergency reliever Bryan Dominick came in and gave up a two-run hit to end the game.

The A’s have home games for four straight nights starting on Wednesday, when they host Oshkosh at 7:30 p.m.
