Griebling Sharp in Debut Win

Posted: June 23, 2008

Cody Griebling took the ball for the first time as a Sheboygan A Monday night and his debut was a most impressive one.

Griebling gave up only two hits and one run in eight innings as he led the A’s to an 8-1 Northeastern Wisconsin League win over the Green Bay Storm. Griebling struck out five and walked three. Adam Ferrell was perfect again in his second appearance.

Green Bay starter Nate Brusewitz walked the first three A’s hitters he faced and then Tim Patzman drove in two with a double to get the A’s off to a fast first inning start. Shawn Wozniak’s base hit was the big blow in the 2-run second and after taking their 5-0 lead after two, the A’s would never be headed.

Patzman drove in three runs and Jordan Rennicke and Graham Bintliff both had two hits to lead the offense.

The win puts the A’s at 13-10 for the season and 7-3 in the NEW, three games behind the unbeaten Manitowoc Bandits. The A’s have a chance to close the gap tonight (Tuesday) when they host Manitowoc in a 7:30 p.m. game at Wildwood Park. AAA Insurance and Travel, Culver’s Restaurant and the Optimists will converge on the park with AAA loading up on top-notch pizes for fans.
