Juergensen’s Three-Run Double Lifts A’s Past Greenville in NEWBL Playoffs

The Sheboygan A’s erased an early three-run deficit with one decisive swing Tuesday night, defeating the Greenville Stars 4-3 in the quarterfinal round of the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League playoffs at Wildwood Park.
The victory sends Sheboygan to Wednesday night’s semifinal against the Appleton Legends in Appleton. The winner will advance to next week’s best-of-three championship series against the Menasha Macs.
Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Matthew Hietpas singled home Turner Kuhnke. The Stars added two more in the fourth on RBI singles by Jake Lucas and Hietpas, extending the margin to 3-0.
Sheboygan answered immediately in the bottom half of the fourth inning.
Alex Ames was hit by a pitch, Chase Hanselman walked and Connor Lasch drew another walk to load the bases with one out. Hudson Wagner was then hit by a pitch, forcing home Ames and putting the A’s on the board.
Jimmy Juergensen followed with the game’s biggest hit, lining a bases-clearing double to center field. Hanselman, Lasch and Wagner all scored, turning the 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 Sheboygan lead.
The A’s pitching staff made the one-run advantage stand.
Joe Richardson started and allowed three runs on eight hits over four innings, striking out three and walking two. He worked out of trouble in both the second and third innings before Greenville broke through for two runs in the fourth.
Bryce Lovisa took over in the fifth and delivered three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out three. Greenville put two runners aboard with two outs in his first inning of work, but Lovisa induced a lineout to end the threat. He then retired the side in order in the sixth and worked around a one-out single in the seventh.
Jude Ackeret pitched a perfect eighth inning, recording a strikeout, before Eric Schmitz retired Greenville in order in the ninth to close out the victory.
Juergensen finished 1-for-3 with the three-run double and accounted for three of Sheboygan’s four RBIs. Wagner drove in the other run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Hanselman and Cal Casper collected the A’s other two hits.
Sheboygan managed only three hits but took advantage of four walks and three hit batters to create the fourth-inning opportunity that decided the game.
The A’s now travel to Appleton for Wednesday night’s single-elimination semifinal against the Legends. The winner will advance to face Menasha in the NEWBL championship series, scheduled for Monday through Wednesday.
